Gerard Schlosser

Gerard Schlosser (1931 - 2022) was active/lived in France.  Gerard Schlosser is known for Painting.

After studying goldsmithing, Gérard Schlosser decided to devote himself definitively to painting in the 1950s. In a context dominated by abstraction, he nonetheless opted for figuration, developing a highly personal style halfway between Pop Art and comic strips: he offers "zooms", fragments of scenes from everyday life treated in flat tints and framed in black. This attention to detail, to the most banal conversations, links him to the Figuration narrative movement (alongside Jacques Monory, Gilles Aillaud, Bernard Rancillac, Gérard Fromanger, Eduardo Arroyo...) theorized by Gérard Gassiot-Talabot in 1965. In the 60s, Gérard Schlosser carried out a number of technical investigations, particularly in relation to the support: cutting, use of sand, polystyrene support... From 1970 onwards, he made systematic use of photography, sanded canvas and very tight framing (already characteristic of his work) in a style often described as hyper-realist.
